Kalmont Mountain Safety Rescue (KMSR) is a fictional mountain safety organization that aims to effectively inform users about the basic Winter Wilderness Safety. KMRS focuses on making our site family oriented where both adolescent and elders are able to use the site and understand the content. Aside from organizing majority of the meetings and coding part of the site, I mainly focus on interface design and providing graphic assets.

genesis

Starting from grounds up, our end goal is to create an appealing and educational website that has both responsive and adaptive design. As a team, our first task was to establish an information architecture and user interface that would fit with our target user.

vertical navigation bar on web

When displaying content to a wide variety of users, simplicity and usability often end up becoming the challenge. We adopted Fitt's Law - infinite corner width when designing our vertical navigation bar. By having the navigation bar at the top left, users require less precision to access the menu items on the screen. Elder users may also be more familiar with a vertical navigation bar as it was often used when website first started.

In order to provide our users quick access to the menu, we adopted a fixed bottom navigation. This way regardless of user's hand size, the menu items are right at your fingertips.

information design/graphic assets

Demographics in British Columbia is very multicultural, and often not everyone are fluent in English. For this reason, majority of our information are image based with some descriptions. This way our target audience are able to read and understand the content. Children may also engage better with pictures, which can aid them in retaining more information.
